Come on Citizen TV, don't ridicule the players
Vihiga Queens in action during the CAF Women's Champions League qualifiers at Kasarani

By all means, this is clip that has been aired recently on Citizen TV is a triviality, it should never have seen the light of day, let alone be aired on mainstream and social media.

There is a video clip doing rounds on various Kenyan social media platforms. It captures Vihiga Queens players lamenting about a lack of ugali, veggies and toothpicks during their recent sojourn in Egypt where they participated in the inaugural edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League.

By all means, this is clip that has been aired recently on Citizen TV is a triviality, it should never have seen the light of day, let alone be aired on mainstream and social media.

Why?

First up, Egypt is certainly not Vihiga, and in the absence of prior arrangements by the Vihiga Queens management – ugali, veggies and toothpicks were never going to be part of the offerings in this foreign land.

We could go into a whole conversation about finding alternative meal plans but that is a conversation for another day.

Secondly, and without sounding like a moral cop, where is the joy in subjecting the players in the video to such ridicule?  Does the person who recorded the clip know what kind of damage they are setting up the players for?

Goodness, Vihiga Queens did the country proud, they were within touching distance of the semifinal but instead, we choose to amplify them in this way?

Wrong, just wrong.

Let’s build and lift our sports teams and personalities instead of ridiculing them. Citizen TV you surely can do better.
