Morans will look to replicate their performance from 2019. Coach Cliff maintains that the team has what it takes to fight for the title.

National men’s basketball team Kenya Morans are scheduled to leave the country on Thursday 6 July evening for Angola where they will take part in the second edition of the FIBA AfroCan.

Coach Cliff Owuor has named his final squad of 12 that will do duty in the competition set for 8 to 16 July.

The team captained by Equity Dumas guard Victor Bosire has four debutants in USIU’s Ariel Otega, KPA’s Brian Shivachi and teammate, league MVP Eugene Adera as well as US-based Derrick Ogechi who was named in the Afrobasket squad but did not play.

Owuor will rely on the experience of Ulinzi Warriors’ guard Erick Mutoro and his Thunder counterpart Griffin Ligare as well as center Tom Wamukota and Fidel Okoth all who were part of the team that won silver in the inaugural edition played in Bamako, Mali in 2019.

Others making the squad are Victor Ochieng, Ken Wachira and Brian Muchina.

Morans will look to replicate their performance from 2019. Coach Cliff maintains that the team has what it takes to fight for the title.

“Going into the competition as silver medalists means we have a target on our back but I remain confident in the squad to execute and fight all the way. We still have a few more sessions to work on getting everything right but I am happy with where the team is,” the tactician added.

Morans face Gabon and Ivory Coast in pool A. Gabon are making a comeback to continental basketball since 2015 when they featured in the Afrobasket and their meeting with Kenya will be a first in recent times.

On the other hand, Morans beat Ivory Coast in the inaugural AfroCan, the latter going on to finish 11th. However, when the two sides met again in the Afrobasket, Ivory Coast won. Having qualified for the World Cup, the West African country is expected to field a formidable squad in Angola.

FULL SQUAD: Victor Bosire (captain), Eric Mutoro, Griffin Ligare, Eugene Adera, Ariel Ortega, Brian Shivachi, Derrick Ogechi, Victor Ochieng', Brandon Muchina, Fidel Okoth, Kenneth Wachira, Bush Wamukota.
