Coach Cheche will compete for the award against several other notable candidates including Chris Danjuma of Nigeria U 17, Moses Aduku of Edo Queens, Mbayang Thiam of Aigles Dela Medina

Kenya U17 national team coach Mildred Cheche has expressed her gratitude after being nominated in the CAF Coach of the Year 2024 (Women) awards. The nomination follows Cheche’s historic achievement in leading her team to the FIFA U17 World Cup,  marking the first time Kenya has qualified for the global competition.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Cheche expressed her appreciation, stating, "I want to express my sincere gratitude for being nominated for the CAF Coach of the Year award in the women’s category. It is truly an honor and great achievement to be recognized alongside my team for our contribution to the development of women’s football in Kenya."

She continued, “I want to extend my deepest appreciation to the formidable technical bench, the Junior Starlets girls, the federation, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Sports, schools, grassroots clubs, and all our Kenyan fans for their immense support and encouragement. Your invaluable support has encouraged me to continue striving for excellence. I am truly humbled and grateful for the opportunity to be considered for this prestigious award. We give God all the glory.”

 

Coach Cheche will compete for the award against several other notable candidates including Chris Danjuma of Nigeria U 17, Moses Aduku of Edo Queens, Mbayang Thiam of Aigles Dela Medina among others.

In addition to Cheche’s nomination, the Junior Starlets team and forward Valarie Nekesa has also been nominated in other categories.  The winners of the awards will be determined through a voting process that includes the CAF Technical Committee, media professionals, head coaches and captains of Member Associations and clubs participating in the group stages of CAF’s interclub competitions.
