Kenya’s Mary Moraa claimed victory in the 800m, crossing the finish line at 1:57.08. This win comes just days after her world record-setting performance
Beatrice Chebet delivered a stunning performance in the 5000m race at the World Athletics Zurich Diamond League, clocking a world-leading and meet record time of 14:09.52.
Despite running solo for much of the final four laps, the double Olympic gold medallist pushed herself to the limit, aiming to break Gudaf Tsegay’s world record. Though Chebet narrowly missed the world record, she achieved the third-fastest time ever in the distance, adding another achievement to her remarkable career.
This victory follows her recent double attack at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she claimed double gold in both the 5000m and 10,000m events. In Zurich, Ethiopia’s Taye Ejgayehu secured second place with a time of 14:28.76, while compatriot Gebreselama Tsigie finished third in 14:39.05.
The current 5000m world record, set by Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay in 2023 during the Diamond League final in Eugene, USA, stands at 14:00.21.
In another exciting race in Zurich, Kenya’s Mary Moraa claimed victory in the 800m, crossing the finish line at 1:57.08. This win comes just days after her world record-setting performance in the 600m at the ISTAF Berlin 2024.
