CHAN 2021: Pool A and B Match Day 1 Round Up

Hosts Cameroon started the tournament with a 1-0 win over Zimbabwe in Yaounde on Saturday evening. Salomon Banga Bindjeme scored a spectacular 72nd minute bicycle kick to give the hosts the win in a fixture that was later marred by claims of wirchcraft emanating from the Zimbabwe Head Coach Zdravko Logarusic.

After a six month delay occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic, the African Nations Championship got underway on Saturday 16 January 2021 in Cameroon.

Pool A

The second match in this group saw Mali and Burkina Faso lock horns, Siaka Bagayoko’s 40th minute goal securing the 1-0 result for Mali.

Pool B

Action shifted to Pool B in Douala on Sunday 17 January, Libya and Niger playing out a scoreless draw in the day’s early kickoff.

Up next was a clash between the two Congos, DR Congo and Congo. Chico Kubanza’s second effort was the difference, DR Congo claiming the 1-0 win to go top of the pool.
