Vihiga Queens have been drawn in Group B of the 2023 CAF Women Champions League CECAFA qualifiers in a draw conducted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on July 5, 2023, in Cairo, Egypt.
The qualifying tournament, whose winner will represent the CECAFA region in the CAF Women Champions League, will run from 12th August – 24th August 2023 in Uganda.
Vihiga Queens, who were crowned the FKF Women Premier League Champions in May this year, will be up against JKT Queens (Tanzania), AS Kigali Women (Rwanda), and New Generation FC (Zanzibar).
Uganda’s Kampala Queens, C.B.E FC (Ethiopia), F.A.D FC (Djibouti), Buja Queens (Burundi), and Yei Joints FC (South Sudan) were pooled in group A.
This will be the second time Vihiga Queens will be taking part in the competition after their exploits in the inaugural edition held in 2021 at the MISC Kasarani in Nairobi.
Group A matches will be played at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, Jinja while Group B games will be staged at the KCCA Stadium in Kampala.
Kenya didn’t have a representative in the tournament last year as the East African country had been suspended from international football due to government interference.
Vihiga will be hoping to return to the tournament with a bang and replicate the performance they put in the 2020-2021 season where they punched a ticket to the CAF Champions League.
The CAF Champions League final is set to be held in Ivory Coast with the dates to be confirmed later.
