For next years’ CHAN, there will be an increase of participating teams with CAF announcing that the competition has increased to 19 teams
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) officially announced that Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will co-host the 2025 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN). The competition is scheduled to happen from February 1st to 28th 2025.
While the specific venues are yet to be confirmed, CAF is expected to announce them in the coming few months. The tournament will feature local players representing their national teams, emphasizing on home grown talents plying their trade in Africa.
The road to CHAN 2025 will see qualifiers take place in several phases. Matches are scheduled from October 25 – 27 and November 1 – 3 ,2024 followed by additional rounds on December 20 - 22 and December 27 – 29, 2024. The five regional zones that will participate in the qualifiers include;
- COSAFA
- WAFU A
- WAFU B
- UNAF
Each zone will secure three qualifying teams while the CECAFA zone will benefit from an extra slot due to being hosts. The trio of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will not participate in the qualifiers and will qualify for the tournament alongside the team from CECAFA with the best qualifying performance.
