As part of the lead-up to the rescheduled tournament, CAF will hold the official draw for the CHAN 2024 in Nairobi on January 15, 2025, at 20:00 Nairobi Time.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, initially scheduled for this year will now take place in August 2025. The tournament, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda has been postponed to allow for further infrastructure development.
CAF's decision comes after consultations with its technical and infrastructure experts who have been monitoring the progress of stadiums, training facilities, hotels, hospitals and other key venues in the three host countries. While significant advancements have been made, CAF officials have determined that additional time is needed to ensure all facilities meet the necessary standards for a successful and high-quality event.
CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed his gratitude towards the governments of the host nations commending their leadership and commitment to improving infrastructure. “I am truly impressed by the progress made in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The ongoing development of stadiums, training fields and other vital facilities is commendable and I am confident that with the extra time, we will deliver a tournament that meets the highest CAF standards,” Dr. Motsepe stated.
He also acknowledged the support from Presidents William Ruto of Kenya, Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania and Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, whose governments have been integral in driving the infrastructure improvements necessary for the championship.
