Buzzer-beater win for Strathmore in exciting clash against K.U

Strathmore trailed for the better part of the match, sometimes finding themselves four goals adrift against a K.U side keen to cause an upset

Brian Murangiri was the star of the match as he scored a stoppage-time goal to hand Strathmore University a crucial 23-22 victory over rivals Kenyatta University (K.U)  in an edge-of-the-seat Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) men's league encounter at Nyayo Handball Court.

Strathmore trailed for the better part of the match, sometimes finding themselves four goals adrift against a K.U side keen to cause an upset but when it mattered the most, the Peter Mwathi-coached side stepped up for the win.

Victory for the Madaraka-based varsity side gives them their 11th win of the season in 12 matches as the fight for the title and Super Cup slots heats up.

"We kept the fight throughout the match because we believed we had what it takes to win. This is a good result in our opening match of the year as it sets the tone for the remaining matches," Murangiri who scored four of the 23 goals including the winner said after the match.

In the other match in the men's league, Boomerang picked their third victory of the season while subjecting Desert Scorpions to their eighth loss in 12 matches.

Boomerang won the match 37-32 after a second half dominant performance in a match the two sides had tied on 15 goals in the first half.

In the women's league, title hopefuls National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) Ladies thrashed New Hope 57-07 to advance their title fight.

In other matches Nairobi City Council (NCC) fell 30-20 to Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) while K.U Vampires humiliated Daystar Falcons 47-17.

Action continues on Sunday 12 February at the same venue.
