Forward George Mutira struck the back of the students' goal twice to hand Butali who are bidding to retain the league title maximum points.

Champions Butali Warriors shot to the summit of the Kenya Hockey Union men's Premier League after downing Strathmore University Gladiators 2-1 at City Park on Saturday. 

Following the hard-fought win, Butali scaled to the top with 20 points, dislodging Western Jaguars who will not be action in the process.

Amos Khai got the consolation goal for the 2016 league winners who have now lost four matches in the current season. 

Meanwhile, Parkroad Badgers played Daikyo Heroes to a 2-2 draw in the men's Super League match staged at City Park. 

Badgers got their goals through Fred Ouma and Mathias Gularide. Daikyo who were leading 2-0 heading to the third quarter had scored through Farhan Khan and Vincent Wesonga. 

Parklands Sports Club narrowly edged Mvita XI 2-1 at City Park. Goals from Franklin Omondi and Teddy Scheffer reduced Samuel Wakhisi's strike to a mere consolation. 

Daystar University Ladies lost 1-0 to their Multimedia University counterparts in the women's Super League contest held at City Park. 

Pacifica Mbeya made the difference in the match after sounding the board in the 39th minute. 

 

In other matches played in the day, Parkroad Tigers beat Wazalendo Youth 1-0 in a nationwide game played at Impala grounds.

Mombasa West edged Gorillas 2-0 in yet another third-tier duel played at the same venue where goals from Anthony Onyango and Olson Githua settled the contest.

Bay Club floored Nandi Hawks by a solitary goal in Kisumu with Valentino Otieno scoring the match-winning goal in the first minute of the game.
