With four league matches left, Bungoma have a date with Nakuru next, an away match that is a must-win for Machio’s charges if they are to give themselves a chance at avoiding the chop.

Bungoma Queens will now shift their focus to their Women Premier League survival after being eliminated from the FKF Women’s Cup, falling to Kibera Ladies on Saturday in Nairobi.

Last weekend Bungoma Queens picked a crucial win against Soccer Assassins, keeping their Women Premier League (WPL) survival chances alive.

The Robert Machio-led Bungoma side moved from the last relegation spot to eighth, on 15 points, with the win. Three teams, including Zetech Sparks and Nakuru City Queens, are tied on 15 points with the varsity side holding the goal difference advantage for seventh.

As the league took a break for the FKF Women’s Cup on the weekend, Machio admits that his side is not yet safe, calling on his charges to remain focused in the remaining four matches and use the Cup matches as part of their build-up for the league.

With four league matches left, Bungoma have a date with Nakuru next, an away match that is a must-win for Machio’s charges if they are to give themselves a chance at avoiding the chop. Only one team will be relegated at the conclusion of the season as Trans Nzoia Falcons and Gaspo Women have already faced the chop.

“We are targeting at least six points from the remaining matches. With fixtures against Nakuru away, defending champions Vihiga Queens in Kisumu, Wadadia FC at home, and Ulinzi Starlets in Nairobi, we have to be strategic and avoid being under pressure when we face the two higher-ranked teams.

We picked a 2-all draw against Vihiga in the first leg and a repeat result, or a win, against the four-time champions would propel us further up in the relegation race and head to the last two matches under little pressure,” Machio explained.

The side joined the top-tier league this season and is keen to keep their spot in the WPL.
