The side faces Nakuru City Queens in their next league assignment
Bungoma Queens fell 3-0 at Sudi to leaders Kenya Police Bullets and coach Robert Machio is a somewhat worried man.
The side is keen to survive the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) axe that will see one more team dropped to the lower tier from the Women Premier League (WPL).
Machio. Whose side fell 5-2 to Bullets in the first round admits that his squad was ill-prepared for the return leg as the players only got two days to train owing to trouble at the institution the club draws a majority of their players from.
In a quick rejoinder, however, the tactician did not shy away from placing blame on a leaky central defense that Bullets exploited to put three past the WPL debutants.
“Defensively we were poor and that contributed to the three goals. We also got some clear chances in the opening 15 minutes that we failed to capitalize on as they would have changed the tempo and trajectory of the match. Our midfield, which has been key in previous matches, was also wanting,” Machio explained, adding that it was a below-par performance from all his charges.
The tactician, however, maintains that his side still has a chance but admits the task is herculean as they would need to get at least 15 matches in the remaining matches.
“The remaining fixtures are crucial and to stay afloat, we will have to win at least five,” he admits. “Three of the remaining matches, against Zetech Sparks, Wadadia, and Soccer Assassins, are at home. We handled these sides well in the first leg and I hope we can make the home advantage count and then push for more wins away.”
The side could also get lucky with the imminent relegation of Gaspo Women as this would see some teams drop points giving Bungoma a better ranking.
The side faces Nakuru City Queens in their next league assignment and the tactician is confident the coming break will help him put his squad together and push for a strong finish
