Big three make winning starts as new FKFPL season kicks off

Ojo Olaniyi struck twice in AFC Leopards 2-0 victory away to hosts Ulinzi Stars at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata.

There were winning starts for champions Tusker, Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, the traditional big three of Kenyan football, as the 2022/23 FKF Premier League kicked off on Saturday 19 November. 

Playing away in Kakamega, Tusker were up against Kakamega Homeboyz at the Bukhungu Stadium and started this game with intent, going ahead through Lawrence Luvanda’s penalty in the 26th minute after a Homeboyz defender handled in the box, a lead they would take to the break.

Jackson Macharia doubled the lead for Tusker before Chris Masinza scored a late consolation for Homeboyz.

Benson Omalla was the difference as Gor Mahia edged Nzoia Sugar 1-0 at the Nyayo Stadium while Ojo Olaniyi struck twice in AFC Leopards 2-0 victory away to hosts Ulinzi Stars at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata.  

The result sees Leopards go top ahead of Sunday’s action which has four matches on the cards.
