In the disputed game, KPA faced off with the warders, winning the match but in hind sight had fielded two ineligible players in Peter Kamara and Dennis Omollo.
Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) men’s league concluded this weekend with the top four finishers expected to feature in this season’s playoffs.
Holders General Service Unit (GSU), Prisons Kenya, Kenya Defence Forces had already booked their ticket to the playoffs but the final slot was to be decided in the final leg this weekend.
Equity Bank and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) both had an opportunity to go through, both needing wins in their final matches.
KPA went down to GSU 3-1 while the bankers picked an easy straight-sets victory over Prisons Mombasa. The result should have been enough to qualify the bankers for their first ever playoff since joining the league in 2018.
That may, however, not happen as a letter from the federation dated 25 June addressed to KPA indicates that the team has been awarded points from their controversial match against Prisons Nairobi.
In the disputed game, KPA faced off with the warders, winning the match but in hind sight had fielded two ineligible players in Peter Kamara and Dennis Omollo.
The two had been deemed ineligible having featured for other clubs, in the same season, out of the country.
A team managers' meeting at the beginning of the season had settled on locking out any foreign-based players who get back to their respective teams before the conclusion of the season. Previously, said players would feature for their mother clubs, especially in the playoffs.
So far, the federation is yet to release the official standings after the league conclusion to ascertain that the directive to award KPA points from the Prisons Nairobi win has been effected as that would place them in fourth place.
