Baraza ready to push Gor to the last day
Sofapaka Coach John Baraza believes the title race will go down to the wire
Sofapaka FC head coach John Baraza says he will push for the Kenyan Premier League title till the last day despite leaders Gor Mahia opening up a seven point gap pending their match against Mathare United on Sunday.
Baraza believes the team still has a chance and says his players are ready to battle for the nine remaining games and see where fate puts them.
“They have a match in hand but they are not assured of winning it. They might slip somewhere along the way and for us we just need to continue winning and hope for the best,” Baraza says.
His side hopes for a repeat of the first leg against Mathare United where they beat them 4-1 at Kasarani. Victory over the slum boys on Sunday will pull them to within four points of the leaders who will have two matches at hand.
But, Baraza anticipates a tough duel against Mathare.
“Obviously when you beat someone once, they will always come tough to try and ensure you don’t beat them again. This will make the match tougher for us. Again, matches between us and Mathare have always been explosive and I expect it to be this way again,” Baraza said.
He adds; “They are a tough team with good technical and tactical players and we have prepared well for them. We have trained so well this week and I expect us to fight for maximum points.”
