Allan Wanga targets KPL golden boot
Veteran Allan Watende Wanga leads the chase for KPL Golden Boot
With a return of eight goals in 16 matches, averaging at least a goal every two games, veteran striker Allan Wanga hopes he can challenge for this year’s Kenyan Premier League golden boot. The forward who now turns out for Kakamega Homeboyz won the coveted accolade in his maiden top flight season in 2007.
“I am happy with how my season is fairing so far and I am really pleased that I am scoring goals. It has been a product of hard work and everyday I get better,” Wanga said.
He added; ‘I want to try and vie for the golden boot. I won it in 20017 and it will be such a great thing if I win it again after 12 years. I think I have the ability to do that because I feel very strong and the chances keep on coming.”
His brace in last weekend’s 6-0 drubbing of Mount Kenya United scaled him higher than Sofapaka’s Umaru Kassumba who is the closest challenger with seven goals.
Already, Wanga has susprassed his entire count of five goals from last season. The veteran now hopes his goal scoring form will earn him a place in Kenya’s team to next June’s African Cup of Nations. The striker has been named in the reserve list for Kenya’s squad to play Ghana in their final AFCON qualifier later this month.
