The Kenya vs Burundi match will be played starting 4:00PM local time and will be broadcast Live by KBC.
Sitting third in Group F of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Kenya's national soccer team, the Harambee Stars, are poised for a historic feat as they take on Burundi away from home on Friday, June 7th, at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, Malawi.
The team, led by Engin Firat, will then face the African champions, the Elephants of Ivory Coast, on Tuesday. Ironically, they will play their home matches away from home due to the lack of CAF approved international stadia in Kenya, with both Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums undergoing renovations.
Speaking in Malawi during their Thursday training session, Firat noted that the team’s past experiences in Malawi have been exciting, and he looks forward to a great performance from the lads despite playing away from home.
Captain Michael Olunga commented, “It is not going to be an easy match because Burundi play really well and they have a great squad. We are hopeful of a good outcome tomorrow.”
Coach Firat, added, "We are analysing every situation. Burundi has very fast players, but we will try and press them. We are well prepared for the match.”
In their last four international matches, Kenya has won three and lost one. They secured victories against Malawi and Zimbabwe in an invitational tournament, dominated Seychelles, and narrowly lost to Gabon 2-1 in the World Cup qualifying opener.
With two wins, Côte d'Ivoire leads the group with six points, the same as Gabon, who are in second place. Kenya is third with one win, following a 5-0 thrashing of Seychelles.
The match will be played starting 4:00PM local time and will be broadcast by KBC.
