It was a mixed fortunes day for Kenyan midfielder Anthony Akumu who scored for his Zambian side Zesco United but the lost the 2018 Charity Shield final  4-3 to Nkana FC at the Nkoloma Stadium.

The Kenya trio had roles in the match with David Calabar and Akumu handed a starting role while Jesse Were waited on the bench.

Nkana who held  Gor Mahia to a 1-1 in a friendly at Camp Toyoyo a fortnight ago started the match on a high note with Ronald 'Sate-Sate' Kampamba opening the score line in the 27th minute from a corner.

From another corner supplied by Chingandu, Kenyan Anthony Akumu beat the keeper to equalize for Zesco United.

Bornwell Silengo gave Zesco United the lead with a nicely executed free kick just before half time.

Nkana’s Idris Mbombo  equalized in the 57th minute then added his second in 61st minute to make it 2-3 for Nkana. Kampamba also found the net for his brace in the 66th minute to give Nkana a 4-2 lead.

Harambee Stars striker Jesse Were was thrown into the fray for Adams Zikiru the 67th minute but didn’t find the net as it was Lameck Banda who managed to pull a goal back the 77th minute but Nkana held on to win 4-3.

This week, Zesco United were beaten 1-0 in their 2018 CAF Champions League first round match at home by ASEC Mimosa of Cote d’Ivoire in Ndola.

The trio –Were,Calabar and Akumu- are in the Harambee Stars squad to play Comoros and the Central African Republic in back-to-back friendlies in Morocco this month.
