Senegal, opened the tournament with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Congo last week and approached Tuesday’s clash against Algeria looking to have one foot in the quarterfinals.

Algeria on the other hand, beat debutants Somalia 2-0 in the opening match courtesy of Moslem Anatouf’s brace.

Senegalese captain Amara Diouf led by an example as he kissed the Algerian net twice and grabbed an assist to cap what had been a fruitful day in office for him.

Senegal were faster off the blocks as they settled in and dominated possession and causing the Algerian defence all sorts of trouble.

Diouf gave Senegal the lead in the dying minutes of the first half, heading a cross after the Algerian defence and goalkeeper Mastias Hammache failed to deal with.

The lethal forward netted the second in the 59th minute from the spot after Hammache brought Omar Sall down.

Second half substitute Mammadou Savane stretched the advantage further for Senegal after tapping in the ball from close range in the 85th minute.

Senegal will wrap their group stage matches with a clash against Somalia on Friday while Algeria will play Congo. The Sengeal vs Somalia game is set to be played in Constantine.
