Gor Mahia were the first to take action removing four of their players from the matchday squad on Monday, while Mathare United suspended four of their players for two weeks
AFC Leopards has become the latest club to take disciplinary actions against players who participated in the controversial unsanctioned Sunday league tournament last week. In a statement released on their social media platforms on November 1st, 2024, the club announced the suspension of three players for breach of contract.
“AFC Leopards has suspended Victor Omune, Kennedy Owino and Julius Masaba with immediate effect for two weeks and without pay for breach of contract. The three were involved in an unsanctioned match in October without the knowledge of the club.” The statement said.
This decision follows significant backlash from the Kenyan football community regarding players participation in weekend league during the season.
Gor Mahia were the first to take action removing four of their players from the matchday squad on Monday, while Mathare United suspended four of their players for two weeks without pay shortly thereafter.
