Former Botswana Premier League champions coach Nikola Kavazovic has been named the new AFC Leopards coach on a two-year contract, the club announced on Saturday. Kavazovic left Rollers at the beginning of the month putting to an end a 14-month stay having joined them last July.
He led the club to the CAF Champions League group stage after guiding them to their 15th league title in Botswana.
“We had almost 20 applicants who had expressed interest in the job and eventually, we settled on Kavazovic because of what he has done not only in Botswana but in the clubs he has coached before. He has worked in Botswana and succeeded and that convinced us he can also work in Kenya and have similar success,” AFC Leopards Secretary General Oscar Igaida said.
Kavazovic replaces Argentine Rodolfo Zapata who left the club barely six months after joining. He came in at the start of May but left with two games left in the season after the club’s fortunes dwindled in the league and their failure to defend the FKF Shield.
The Serb meanwhile is expected to jet in with his own assistant with the fate of current deputy Tom Juma, goalkeeper trainer Mathew Ottamax and Team manager Gilbert Selebwa hanging in the balance.
Igaida says they will decide on the way forward once the new coach arrives. He also says he has givben a transfer list of players he wants to sign.
