AFC face Bungoma SuperStars in FKF Shield
AFC Leopards will on Sunday take on Bungoma SuperStar in a tricky FKF Shield Cup quarter final match at the Bukhungu stadium in Kakamega
Ten-time Football Kenya Federation Shield Champions AFC Leopards face a potential banana skin when they take on Bungoma Super Stars in the second round of this year’s tourney at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Sunday.
Bungoma progressed to the second round after shocking three-time champions Sofapaka on post-match penalties in the first round and will look to continue in the form when they host the on-form Ingwe.
Leopards come into the tie with an unbeaten run over the last four games including last Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Western Stima in a league fixture and their motivation is at an all time high. With the league title now an impossibility to win, they see this as their perfect chance for a title.
“We know they eliminated a Premier League team so it will not be easy. We have to go there and work hard to get a result. It will not be an easy game because in a Cup competition every team comes to play a final,” AFC skipper Robinson Kamura stated.
AFC are expected to field a strong team especially with the weight in which they are taking the tournament.
In the other fixture on Sunday, Western Stima will take on Wazito FC at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu. NSL side Wazito have vowed to put in a shift as they also challenge for the title with head coach Fred Ambani saying they are well ready.
“Stima are a league side and we know they have experience. But we also have a quality side and we will go to prove our worth,” Ambani stated.
Defending champions Kariobangi Sharks will be up against Muranga Seal at Kasarani on Monday while Gor will face Bandari in Mombasa on Wednesday.
