Ademola Lookman and Barbra Banda Claim Top Honors

Banda was named National Women’s Player of the year after her remarkable performances with Orlando Pride and Zambia, including a hat trick at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The much anticipated CAF 2024 Football awards took place on Monday night at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech, hosted by renowned sports presenter Kate Scott and Jamal Bouzrara. The event was graced by a collection of former African football greats including Seydou Keita, Macdonald Mariga, Mohamed Zidan, Joseph Antoine Bell, Portia Modise, Fabrice Akwa, Victor Wanyama, among other guests.

Ademola Lookman, Barbra Banda and Ronwell Williams were the standout winners at the event. Lookman won Men’s Player of the Year after a stellar year with Atalanta and Nigeria national team. The forward scored a hat trick during the Europa league final against Bayer Leverkusen and also played a key role in Super Eagles AFCON campaign.

Banda was named National Women’s Player of the year after her remarkable performances with Orlando Pride and Zambia, including a hat trick at the Paris 2024 Olympics. She also became the first African player in the FIFPRO Women’s World 11.

South Africa captain Williams was the only double winner of the night, taking home the Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year and the Men’s Inter club Player of the Year after his key role in his nation’s bronze medal at the 2023 African Cup of Nation’s and Mamelodi Sundown’s record breaking league campaign.

Chiamaka Nnadozie  won Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year for a second consecutive time, while Sana`a Mssoudy claimed Women’s Inter Club Player if the Year. Senegal and Monaco’s Lamine Camara was named Men’s Young Player of the Year and Morocco’s Doha El  Madani won Women’s Young Player of the Year.

Emerse Fae was named Men’s Coach of the Year for guiding Côte d’Ivoire to the AFCON title, while Lamia Boumehdi Women’s coach of the Year after leading TP Mazembe to the CAF Champions League title.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons was named the Women’s National team of the year, with Cote d’Ivoire winning Men’s National team of the year. Al Ahly’s dominance in the CAF Champions League earned them Men’s Club of the Year, while TP Mazembe took Women’s Club of the Year.

Mabululu’s stunning goal for Angola against Namibia won the Goal of the Year award, while CAF honored top referees, with Mutaz Ibrahim and Bouchra Karboubi named Men’s and Women’s Referees of the Year, respectively.
