53 apply for vacant Gor coaching job
The search for Gor Mahia’s new tactician will narrow down to three individuals by the end of the week after the club received a total of 53 applications for the job. Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier says the Executive Committee will review the applications sent in and make a final decision before the new KPL season starts.
“We have had numerous applications and we will have to sift through all of them and come up with the best man to lead Gor for the new season in the next one week,” Rachier said.
“There are several key areas that we are looking for in getting the new coach. We are looking at language, experience and also if the coach has been to Africa before. It is very important to get someone who understands the terrain well,” Rachier said.
The club’s coaching job was left vacant after the departure of Dylan Kerr 11 days ago with the tactician now at South African club Black Leopards.
Rachier meanwhile dispelled rumours that the tactician was sacked, saying he had wilfully resigned and the club reluctantly agreed to his decision.
“We cannot come in between when a coach or even a player finds greener pastures and we deem it fit that he should go. Dylan was not sacked but sent in his resignation,” Rachier said.
As they await his replacement, the club will be handled by assistant coach Zedekiah Otieno on interim basis.
