2020 CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations cancelled

AFCON which was slated for January 2021 in Cameroon has been rescheduled to January 2022. CHAN, initially set for between April 4 and 25, 2020 in Cameroon has been postponed to January 2021. The exact dates for the football extravaganzas and remainder of the qualification processes will be set later. 

The Total Women's Africa Cup of Nations 2020 has been cancelled. CAF has further announced  the postponement  of The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and African Nations Championships (CHAN) due to the worldwide COVID -19 Pandemic.

The decision was arrived at after consultation with stakeholder and announced via a video conference meeting held by the Confederation of African Football executive committee.

The Women's Cup of Nations (AWCON) was scheduled to run between November 23 and December 20 but there was no substantive host nation after the Republic of Congo withdrew as hosts in July 2019 and with the Covid Pandemic still rising in most African nations..

Tunisia was among the favorites to host the biennial bonanza but no official confirmation had been issued as Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea had expressed interest in hosting the games.

CAF chief Ahmad Ahmad has announced that the CAF Women's Champions League will be launched in 2021. The timelines, formats and other details will be communicated in due course.

"The CAF executive committee is satisfied with the Cameroonian authorities for their commitment towards the hosting of the two competitions. Cameroon is ready to host either competition and are within schedule," said president Ahmad.
