Kenya's national women's volleyball team, the Malkia Strikers, have touched down in Miramas, France, joining the first wave of Kenyan athletes already training there. Rugby and track athletes arrived a few days earlier for a two-week pre-Olympic camp in the French coastal town, located about 700 kilometres from Paris.

Kenya expects to send around 83 participants to this year's Olympics, aiming to surpass their performance in Rio 2016, where they secured an impressive 13 medals (6 gold, 6 silver, and 1 bronze). This number dipped slightly at the Tokyo 2020 games, with Kenya bringing home 10 medals (4 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze).

Triza Atuka, the Malkia Strikers' captain, expressed the team's enthusiasm upon arrival: "Coming here early is a huge advantage. It allows us valuable time to focus and adjust as we strive to rack up more points this year." This Olympics will be Atuka's debut on the Olympic stage, having missed the Tokyo games due to a knee injury.
