Will Kenya Pipeline defend the KVF women's volleyball league title or will KCB win their first national championship since 2006?

Both sides had exciting results on the second day of the ongoing 2023 playoffs KCB, recovering from a poor start in the first set to dominate their clash against DCI and seal a straight sets victory.

DCI led the scores 24-21 and needed just a point to seal the set but crumbled under pressure as the bankers kept pushing for a 28-26, the other sets were won 25-17, 25-15.

"I am happy that my team kept fighting in that first set. Winning it gave us confidence and also helped us realise DCI could easily hurt our title hopes so we adjusted quickly for the win," offered head coach Japheth Munala.

In the other women's match of the day, holders Kenya Pipeline showcased their resilience as they fought a stubborn Prisons Kenya for a 3-1 (25-16, 25-23, 18-25, 26-24) victory.

The dramatic battle saw Pipeline come from four points behind in the fourth set to seal the win with Pamela Adhiambo delivering the match-winning block.

On Wednesday, Munala's charges play the oil merchants with the championship wide open for either side's taking.

Meanwhile, in the men's league, a new champion will be crowned as holders GSU were stunned by KPA 3-0.

The James Ontere-coached sockets came to the match in the back of a 3-1 loss to Prisons while GSU had laboured for a 3-2 win against KDF.

In a thrilling contest on day two, KPA were a completely different side as they triumphed against the 16-time champions 25-23, 25-22, 25-14 to keep their hopes alive.

 

Meanwhile, Prisons men who last lifted the title in 2016 sealed their second win of the playoffs with a straight sets victory against KDF and move closer to recaliming the title.

KDF who are still chasing their first victory of the playoffs went down 21-25, 18-25, 22-25 and will be looking to save face when they meet the title-chasing KPA on Wednesday.
