 Grade Eight Prodigy Earns Spot as Kenya Names U-17 World Cup Squad

Joan Ogola, a grade 8 pupil at Mwira Comprehensive Junior High School is part of the final squad unveiled. Ogola was the 2024 Kenya Junior Secondary Schools MVP and top scorer.

Harambee Starlets coach Mildred Cheche has announced her final squad of twenty players that will represent Kenya at the U-17 World Cup in Dominican Republic. The coach has unveiled her final team after a thorough three week training with the provisional squad.

Notably, Joan Ogola, a grade 8 pupil at Mwira Comprehensive Junior High School is part of the final squad unveiled. Ogola was the 2024 Kenya Junior Secondary Schools MVP and top scorer. 

Another young player to make into coach Cheche’s squad is midfielder Lindy Weey Atieno of Sunflower Junior High School.

The squad announced will depart the country on Thursday morning and head to Spain where they will pitch camp from 19th September to 1st October before heading to the tournament. This will be the first time Kenya will be featuring at any level of the World Cup competitions.

Kenya Police Bullets defender Elizabeth Ochaka will captain the squad at the World Cup.

The final squad announced consist of.

Goalkeepers:Velma Auma, Ephy Awuor, Scovia Awuor.

Defenders: Elizabeth Ochaka, Lorine Ilavonga, Jenevieve Mithel, Christine Adhiambo, Kimberly Akinyi, Diana Anyango.

Midfielders: Velma Awuor, Brenda Awuor, Halima Imbachi, Rebecca Odato, Susan Akoth, Lindi Weey Atieno, Pearl Olesi, Lorna Faith.

Forwards: Valerie Nekesa, Joan Ogola, Marion Serenge, Quinter Adhiambo, Jane Kweyu, Joy Angela Valencia.
