There is a Simmering controversy in the AFC Leopards technical bench after foreign coach Robert Bollen deserted the club on Thursday ahead of their match against Rangers Fc on Sunday. In Bollen’s absence, Robert Matano took over the team as head coach as the team registered their first win in the 2011 KPL season against Rangers Fc on Sunday at the City Stadium.

Bollen is said to have been disappointed at the suggestions by the other technical bench officials who according to him (Bollen) were trying to force certain players to the starting line up.

“He decided to keep off the team since Friday and we haven’t seen nor heard from him since then. We are waiting to see if he turns up on Tuesday for training.” Said team manager Bernard Onyango.

Coach Matano who led the team to a deserved 3-1 win over Rangers on Sunday said despite being a great coach, Bollen is hard to listen and cannot take advise from anyone including the technical bench even when he is on the wrong.

“I respect Bollen as a great coach but you do not disregard the other technical officials’ suggestions. This is a team and we believe in collective responsibility but he was very hard to be convinced on some technical concerns we felt needed to be addressed.” He said.

Other points of concern included the team’s physical endurance as he was soft in his training with the team and also had poor tactics on team cohesion and bonding.

“This is a physical league and the players were low on endurance especially last week when they played against Tusker, we needed to increase that in training but he was very resistant to the same.” Added Matano.
