Africa Hockey title holders South Africa are on course towards retaining the coveted Africa title after registering their second convincing victory in the on-going Africa Cup of Nation championships at the City Park Stadium in Nairobi.

On Tuesday, the Olympic Games representatives recorded another big victory over fellow cup favorites Egypt with a 6-1 win. South Africa on Monday defeated Ghana who are  ranked third in the continent with a 6-2 win,  a victory they confirmed against Egypt who had luckily escaped with a 3-2 win over hosts Kenya.

Club captain Austin Smith who bagged a brace on the day to reach the 33rd international goal in his 126 career caps said the team is psyched up to reclaim the title.

“The team is getting more composure as the tournament matures, obviously we want to win  all our matches and retain the title.” said the 28 year old playing in Netherlands.

Smith said the team is not at the level they could have loved to be but said the influx of younger players will guarantee continuity.

“Over nine players from last Olympics are still with the team, it means we got the much needed experience. Against Kenya on Thursday, the match will no doubt be tough.”

“Kenya is coming up from the team we beat two years ago, it will be  a different game against them.” He said.
