Kenya Police are back in the country after dominating the Tanga Phoenix hockey tournament that came to a close in Tanzania over the weekend.

Moshi Khalsa succumbed to a 5-1 loss in the final against the Kenyan representatives having lost with a similar score in the finals of the previous year.

Police have won the tournament of four occasions since their maiden appearance five years ago. Their only loss came two years ago when they had to travel with a weaker team as most of the dependable players were with the national team in Zimbabwe for an Olympic qualifier tournament. The Police team went ahead to lose in the finals.

Goalkeeper James Kayeko who has been with the team in all the four fruitful outings said the team showed class dominating the 2013 edition.

“The team has gelled effectively with players having understood each other better. The score line can be flattering but we had to sweat to get such kind of victory especially in the finals stage.” noted the custodian who only conceded twice in the entire tournament.

“We have experienced players whose main objective is to play better, set example to new players and of course win more silverware. Unlike most clubs we have had a good build up in the tournament therefore expect us to carry our form to the premier league” He concluded.

Police are leading the men premier league with 12 points having won all their four opening fixtures scoring on 14 occasions while conceding just once.

The team arrived in the country on Tuesday evening.
