KU’s Vultures see off Rovers for second win of the season

Kenyatta University side christened Vultures defeated Thika Rovers 3-1 to register their second win of the season in the men's national league played at the City Park Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Vultures have played four matches winning two, drawing one and losing one in the 16 team second tier league.

Youngster Brian Oweke continued his goal scoring exploits getting the opener for Vultures in the second minute following a Job Simiyu layback in the opposition box. Richard Mung’ala was beaten by the low shot to his left.

James Juma got the second a field goal that involved four players exchanging a series of passes before giving the custodian no option from close range.

Robert Aseda was the architect of the move dribbling and then passing yhe cork to Shadrack Ruto who exchanged passes with Joseph Mwangi who freed the goal scorer. Vultures went to the interval with a 2-0 win.

Four minutes after the restart Issac Githinji who had missed a couple of chances in the first half redeemed his reputation with a clever back heel to give Rovers reprieve.

Captain Samuel Mwangi had his share of chances to level for Rovers but he failed to beat the keeper one on one on three occasions.

The proverbial saving the last for best happened four minutes to the end with Fredrick Okumu hitting a late screamer from the edge of the box to ease pressure from his side who looked vulnerable at the back.

Match captain Ruto was in hand to congratulate his with a deserved victory for the afternoon which took them to seven points and second in the league standings.

“Ever since we lost to Kenya Polytechnic we have been playing much better without surrendering victories while improving on our concentration. We are looking forward to bettering our all round style of play.” he offered.
