Artillery Gunners win KDF Handball League
Artillery vs Kenya Navy
The Kenya Defence Forces Handball League 2012/2013 season came to a close on Thursday afternoon at the Nyayo Handball with Artillery Gunners being crowned champions after they beat Kenya Navy 34-31 in the finals.
Ulinzi, which is the Defence Forces main team was also participating in the league and had won all its 13 matches but was not awarded something the league’s Assistant Fixture Secretary Sammy Mwangangi explained, was for competition purposes, “as you know Ulinzi is our main team that means that it has the best players from all our different units therefore in order to create a sense of fair competition to the other teams we saw it best to exclude them from the awards.”
In the ladies category Ulinzi were declared champions but compared to the men’s category the team is comprised mainly of players from one unit, “the players that form Ulinzi ladies team are from one unit apart from one or two that is why we awarded them.” explained Mwangangi. Ulinzi ladies team had beaten Kahawa Barracks 23-20 in the ladies finals played on Wednesday.
