Gor Mahia Captain Jerry Onyango will be out of the FKF Cup Semi Final match against AFC leopards at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani. Coach Zdravko Logarusic says that Jerry on coming back from National assignment in Tanzanian asked not to be included in the squad that faces Leopards tomorrow as he is “not psychologically prepared for that match”.

Jerry made a blunder last weekend against Thika United resulting to Thika’s first goal and ultimately the goal that would see Gor fail to lift the TPL title. A section of fans taunted the keeper and this might have shaken him off balance.

“He came to me and Bobby and said: " Coaches, look; I am not in the best psychological shape to play the match tomorrow and we understood him and had to allow him time off. As a coach if a player says he is not ready for a match, you just have to understand him because he will not play that match according to how you want him to,” Logarusic told michezoafrika.com.

Jerry has been a backbone of Gor Mahia’s success for the whole of this season and his rich vein of form saw Gor climb ladders from near relegation to title winning position.

The keeper who stood in between the sticks in Harambee Stars’ friendly against Tanzania on Wednesday also ensured Gor Mahia won the KPL Top 8 cup where he never conceded a single goal in the three matches to the trophy.

He has been nominated for the goalkeeper of the year award in the oncoming FOYA awards set for next Wednesday and is seen by many as the front runner for the award.
