Bungoma  Youth combined on Saturday afternoon claimed victory of the Western regional under 13 youth championship played at the Bungoma Posta grounds  defeating high school youth 3-1 in a thrilling final.

The tournament which lived to its expectation with 8 teams from Bungoma,Webuye and Mumias participating  was a parade of massive  talent with youngsters at their best trying to outshine each other,of much interest though were Jaffery Assam,Bethwel Musa of Bungoma kids league and Onyango Robert of Bungoma combine who were at their top thrilling the mammoth crowd with their creative moves.
It was impressive to witness how the barefooted lads gave a good account of themselves despite the wet grounds.

The western region youth tournament is one of the initiatives of Michezo Afrika and is run by empowered youths in  Bungoma region under the Ubabalo 2010 umbrella led by Robert Nesta Juma.

Bungoma combined were unbeaten in the entire tournament registering impressive results in their group matches and a 3-1 win over Mumias youth in the semi finals booked them a ticket for the finals.
The other semi final saw two teams from the Bungoma kids league, High school youth and City stars meeting and leveling their strength with a one all draw leading to post match penalties.High school youth won 5-3.

Bethwel Musa was with no objection awarded the best players’ crown owing to his lovely skills in the midfield while Robert Onyango was the most lethal striker and was awarded the top scorer trophy.

Speaking while awarding the trophies to the victors,Mr.Peter Makali who was the guest of honour louded the organizers and the coaches for their unity and willingness to grow young talent. “This is the future of our Kenyan football and I am particularly impressed with the kind of talent I have seen here.”He said. Mr.Makali who is an official with Football Kenya Limited Bungoma branch promised to work hand in hand with the local youth coaches to ensure they get all necessary support.Also present during  the tournament was Michezo afrika’s Walter Machio who promised 10 soccer balls for every participating team.

The young lads had on Friday afternoon participated in a town clean up exercise where over 70 youth soccer players put their character and love for the environment to practice
