Mixed results for Kenya in day one of African Cricket championships

The Kenya Under 19 Girls cricket team posted mixed results on Saturday as the Pepsi ICC Junior Girls Championships began in Kampala Uganda. The girls started off well beating Rwanda but then fell at the hands of hosts Uganda.

Kenya made minced meat of the Rwanda side in their opening match at the Kyambogo University. Rwanda won the toss and selected to bat first making 92 for 9, a target that Kenya easily reached in 13.3 overs.

Kenya’s most impressive were Daisy Wairimu who had 2 for 16 in her 4 Overs, Faith Mwende had 2 overs with 1 for 15 while Edith Wanjiru barely 12 years old impressed with another wicket with 1 for 19.

In the second match of the day, Kenya showed her soft underbelly of poor batting  and bowling. Kenya’s best bowlers failed to bowl to one side of the wicket and as a result earned the hosts too many underserved runs.

Kenya’s Jane Achieng was the top scorer with 12 runs.

On Sunday, Day two of the tournament, Kenya is set to take on Mozambique in the morning and Tanzania in the afternoon in the 2020 games to be played at the Lugogo Cricket complex.
