By Monday evening after training, the team members had almost lost hope of traveling to Burundi for this year’s regional Zone 5 basketball competition as the team officials were yet to raise the 3 Million shillings needed to help them travel for the championships.

However, amidst the uncertainties, point guard Samba Mjomba remained hopeful that a miracle will happen overnight and that their dreams would not be squashed. They had a scheduled match set for Tuesday morning against APR from Rwanda.

On Tuesday morning, players were summoned to meet at the Railway club by 2:00pm as the government had agreed to pay for the team’s air tickets to Burundi. The team departed Nairobi on Tuesday at 5:00pm.

“I cannot even explain how we are all feeling. This is very exciting, humbling and we thank God almighty for this opportunity. We never lost hope and we kept praying. Our faith has finally been repaid” She says.

“By Monday evening some of my team members were almost losing hope but we kept our faith high and believed something will happen overnight. We now have to work hard and repay by winning the competition.” She adds.

The other Kenyan team USIU arrived in Burundi in good time for their first match against KCC of Uganda winning 60-43 with Hilda Indasi and Linda Mfuchi emerging as best scorers for last year’s runners up.
