Lions Club assistant coach Morris Shitsama has praised his side after they beat 2012 KBF Premier League Champions Co-op Bank 65-55 on Saturday at the Nyayo Gymnasium.

Shitsama states that the fact Co-op were playing at home, his team had to step up against their rivals in order to get the win, “Co-op were playing at home and we had to give our best and the boys did exactly that and we got the win.”

Lions who were formerly known as KCB Lions before sponsors Kenya Commercial Bank withdrew their support had an outstanding 2012 season where they were beaten only once in 22 matches in the regular season. However in the play offs semis they succumbed to USIU Tigers which saw them eventually finish 3rd in the season. This scenario is one Shitsama says they are going to avoid having started the 2013 campaign on a high note,

“Last season we played superbly throughout the normal season but the players were worn out by the time we were playing the play offs. This time we have changed our system and am sure we shall not blunder in the last stages.”

Lions has so far played seven matches with their only loss coming in the hands of Madaraka based Strathmore Blades who beat them 62-59. They are currently placed third in the table standings with 13 points.
