Kenya teams collect vital wins in fundraiser match
It was an evening of excitement at the Nyayo stadium basketball gymnasium as the national teams both men and women collected vital wins in their build up matches ahead of the forthcoming Zone 5 Basketball championships to be hosted in Kampala Uganda.
The teams were also using the match to raise funds to support their trip to Uganda next week.The match raised over 100,000 shillings
During the action, the men’s team defeated a select team of foreign players beating them 62-50 winning in all quarters (10-20, 15-12, 15-20, 22-16) but the third where they fell 15-20.
Powered by Georgina Otieno’s 14 points and Bridgit Nanzala’s 10 points, the women team sailed past Nairobi select with a 50-41 win having led 20-12 by half time.
USIU’s Cynthia Irankunda was stubborn for the Kenyan girls managing to sneak past the defense with 9 points while Evelyne Itabo had 8 points for the Kenya select team.
The referees were also in their own form dismissing a celeb select team 33-29 in an entertaining exhibition match. Juma Kent and Andrew Kihumba both managed 8 points same as celebrity Luigi Spinula.
