The GJ Sports basketball tournament was officially launched in Nairobi on Friday morning by sponsor Dr. George Johns. The tournament will bring together top 8 East African teams in both the men and women categories  as they compete for the 1.1 Million shillings prize money at the Nyayo national stadium between February 13th -16th 2014.

The tournament will bring together top teams from Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania and hosts Kenya.

While speaking in Nairobi during the launch, Dr. Johns, a renowned world sports surgeon also announced plans to set up a modern sports medical facility to help support sportsmen recover from debilitating sports related injuries.

“As the GJ Sports, we have been privileged to work with some of the biggest names in global sports and given that Kenya is home to many world champions and world record holders, we are honored to take up the challenge to nurture and grow all round traditional and nontraditional sporting disciplines”.

“ In this regard, we opted to start off with basketball, a team sport that has mass appeal but more importantly one whose popularity transcends the regional borders; a reach that allows us to engage with a wider audience making it easy to showcase and share the GJ Sports philosophy” Dr. Johns.
