The Twelve-year-old Kanana Muthomi carded 41 points to claim the best Girl title last weekend at the Airforce outing, this being her second crown after also taking the top prize in the category during the fifth leg of the tour in Machakos.

Six-year-old Lynette from Nyali golf club produced a splendid 37 gross to lead her group and claim the overall best girl title with Nakuru-based junior John Mbagi emerging the best boy after posting a gross of 84 points.
Playing off handicap 16, the 17-year-old Kiplenge carded 18 points on the first nine to combine with impressive 23 points courtesy of an eagle at hole thirteen and several pars and bogeys to beat a field of 246 golfers to claim the overall title on 41 Stableford points.
“Nakuru is the fourth event being held in the Rift Valley region and in the previous three tournaments, we have experienced massive turnouts, especially from the juniors. This is a clear indication that the Rift region can produce the next generation of the country’s top golfers,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO, Safaricom.
It was at the back nine where he doubled his effort and produced an impressive 23 points courtesy of a birdie at hole 15 to claim the overall title with a total of 40 stableford points in the event, which attracted a field of 133 players with the majority coming from South Rift, North Rift, Nyanza, and Western Clubs.
The Kericho Golf Club was started in 1927 and Munga Marisoi is the oldest member of the club having started playing there in 1950. He says, “I started playing here when it was just a small course with forests all around us, that was in 1950.”
The Safaricom Golf Series now moves to Western Region, Kitale Golf Club on 11th June for its tenth leg. The tour has so far drawn over 4,800 golfers who have taken part in the tournaments, junior clinics and outreach programmes.
At Nyali, the Safaricom junior golf competition attracted kids as young as six years, a real experience on how the tournament is offering rare opportunities for the young to spur their dreams. This, in addition to the free introductory junior golf clinics that were held alongside the tournament.
