The side from Western Kenya were too strong for hosts Kayole Starlets, crushing them 6-0 at the ABSA Sports Club in Nairobi on Sunday 16 January 2022. Terry Engesha grabbed a hat trick with Jentrix Shikangwa netting a brace. Maureen Ater added a goal as Vihiga maintained their lead atop the standings with the maximum 15 points.
The result saw Thika rise to third on the log with six points, level with second placed Gaspo but with an inferior goal difference.
Kisumu All Starlets were uncompromising in front of goal, putting newcomers Kangemi Ladies to the sword with a 6-0 whitewash in Kisumu. Jacinta Akoth opened the scoring with a fourth minute goal before Lydia Ruth grabbed a treble, scoring in the 44th, 66th and 76th minutes with Monica Etot striking twice in the 49th and 85th minutes.
Gaspo Women, Ulinzi Starlets and Wadadia registered big wins as the 2021/22 FKF Women’s Premier League kicked off at the weekend.
This year’s league will feature all twelve teams play a round robin, home and away competition with the overall winner being the team that has accumulated the most points at the close of the season.
Atieno, who was part of the Harambee Starlets squad that played at the 2016 AWCON finals was recently named as a member of the Caretaker Committee that will run Kenyan football following the disbandment of the Nick Mwendwa led Football Kenya Federation on Thursday 11 November 2021.
On return from recess, the Harambee Starlets continued business with Janet Bundi's 48th minute strike before Skiangwa double in the 67th and 73rd minute of the contest.
The Ulinzi Starlets sharpshooter scored four goals, in the 2nd, 4th, 34th and 60th minutes
