Sports lovers in Kenya can enjoy the gift of live action following the Government’s decision to allow fans back into stadia, albeit at two thirds capacity. This move comes hot on the heels of the Presidential directive lifting the Covid 19 enforced dusk to dawn curfew on Mashujaa Day.
Dennis Oliech and Humphrey Kayange were among 30 Kenyan sports personalities recognized as heroes during the 2021 Mashujaa Day celebrations held on 20 October 2021.
Even as these restrictions have been eased, there was no mention of sports, which had been allowed to resume but without fans in stadia.
FKF CEO and Secretary General, Barry Otieno, in a communication to the media on Saturday 16 October 2021 stated, “The directive is confounding as FKF is unsure of the scope, terms of reference, and objective of the said inspection
If politicians are being allowed to draw large crowds, why not sport –which is more of a unifier than the toxic brand of politics witnessed in Kenya?
The order comes barely 24 hours after the FKF Head Honcho lost his bid to block his arrest over mounting allegations of financial impropriety against him and the organization he leads.
Action continues today with eight fixtures on the cards.

A Kenya Gazette notice dated 24 September 2021 reads in part, “In exercise of the powers conferred by section 35 (1) of the Sports Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Heritage appoints Humphrey Kayange and Tegla Lorupe to be members of the Board of the Kenya Academy of Sports Council, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 21st September, 2021.”
