Belgium inflict second defeat to Malkia Strikers
The Malkia Strikers started their campaign on Friday evening with a 0-3 ( 11-25,17-25,11-25) loss to hosts Netherlands and will have a second bite of the cherry when they take on Belgium at 2.00pm EAT this afternoon.
Kenya started their campaign at the FIVB World Championships on a losing note, going 0-3 down to hosts Netherlands in sets of 11-25, 17-25 and 11-25.
The Malkia Strikers will be up against their Pool A opponents for the third time since 2019, having lost both encounters 0-3, the first defeat coming during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics qualifiers when they fell in sets of 17-25, 10-25 and 10-25 before going down in sets of 12-25, 19-25 and 17-25 during the FIVB World Championship in Tokyo, Japan.
The team touched down at 3:25pm local time and proceeded to their base in Apeldoorn. They will begin their Pool ‘A’ campaign on Friday against the Netherlands in Arnhem.
Ndasaba, a mainstay and former captain of the national women’s volleyball team, Malkia Striker for over a decade from the mid-90s to the late 2000s, was a member of the squads that competed at the 1998 and 2002 FIVB Women’s World Championships, the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games in Sydney and Athens respectively as well as several African championships.
