U-20 team intensifies training ahead of next round

The Kenyan U-20 women’s soccer team has resumed training in Nairobi ahead of their next match against Tunisia on 31st of March in Nairobi. The team of 22 players is currently camping   at the YMCA in Shauri Moyo and training at the City stadium.

Coach Florence Adhiambo is confident her team has the character and technique to dislodge the Tunisians despite their long history of solid soccer structures. Kenya qualified to the third round after eliminating Zambia 5-2 on aggregate. Tunisia on the other hand hammered Morocco with a 6-0 goal aggregate to book a date with Kenya.

“So far the confidence is still sky high and am encouraged by the determination the girls have portrayed so far. We are full house and am not going to make any changes in our squad that played in the last two matches.” She said.

Coach Adhiambo is however not certain whether Jackline Ogol will be available for the match against Tunisia.

“Jacky got injured in our first leg match against Zambia in Lusaka but she is still undergoing physiotherapy and we hope she will be in good form because we have some days before we play against Tunisia. She is responding well and her experience can be of good value to our next round campaign.” Added Adhiambo.

Kenya is two steps away from this year’s U-20 Women’s world Cup set to be held in Japan. A win against Tunisia in the two legged encounter will draw Kenya against the winner of the match between South Africa and Ghana in the final round before qualifying for the FIFA world Cup.

“The world Cup is within our ranger and we have all the ammunition to give it a stab. We are leaving nothing to chance.” She added.
