Thika Queens, Wadadia triumph in women league matches

Mercy Achieng scored twice as Thika Queens hammered Wadadia 3-1 in a Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women's Premier League match at Longonot Horticulture ground, Naivasha, at the weekend.

Achieng shook the net in the 18th and 33rd minutes in the match which saw Rebecca Akinyi score the match-opener for the winners in the sixth minute. Deffense Juma pulled one back for Wadadia in the 62nd minute.

In another contest, Wadadia from Kakamega County ran over Eldoret Falcons 5-1 in a one-sided clash that saw Juliet Auma (2nd minute) Yuna Jerop (11th), Yasmin Chitechi (18th) Zulekha Yusuf (20th) and  Deffence Juma scored a goal each for the victors.

Elizabeth Wanyama netted one for Falcons in the weekend matches which marked the end of the first leg of the league that features 12 teams.

Mombasa-based Spedag hit Leeds Kisumu 2-0  at Oseria n Stadium, Naivasha, with Murral Auma and Millicent Mwanzi shaking the net in the 17th and 29th minutes respectively.

Naivasha proved to be bad hunting ground for Leeds Kisumu as they suffered a 0-1 defeat by Eldoret Falcons. Faith Chepto scored for Falcons in the74th minute.

Nairobi-based Makolanders, also returned home empty-handed after succumbing 0-2 and 0-1 to league leaders Oserian Ladies and Soccer Queens respectively.

Veronica Wafula scored Soccer Queens, while Josephine Naswa and Dorcas Shikobe shook the net for Oserian in the fifth and 54th minutes respectively.

 At Longonot Horticulture, Old is Gold were leading 4-0 in their match against Eldoret Falcon, when Falcon officials asked the players to walk out of the pitch citing encroaching darkness.

The players abandoned the match with six minutes to go. Caroline Wanjiru scored a hat-trick, while Mary Njeri stabbed home the match-opener.

Oserian Ladies are perched atop the league table with 29 points.
