The Triumphant Kenya National Tong-IL Moo-Do team received a hero’s welcome after arriving back from Thailand where  they emerged tops in the just ended 7thWorld Martial arts peace Cup.

 The 27-man team bagged 26 medal’s that included eight gold, ten silver and eight bronze. On hand to receive the triumphant team that landed on Thursday afternoon aboard Qatar Airlines at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) was deputy commissioner of   sports Stephen Karinga and top martial Arts officials led by Emmanuel Tanui who is the Chairman of the Family Federation for World Peace. 

Team coach Master Clarence Mwakio said he was delighted by his teams sterling performance where they conquered 11 top nations led by Brazil and hosts Thailand.  He said there was need to spread the sport to all the 47 counties including schools and colleges to raise the standard.

Kenya Gold medallists were Nasib Abdisalam,Ian Munjui,Collins  Ndunda, Elvis Malipe, Dickson Nyaga, Gilbert Mayar, Robinson Muronji and Lilian Ambeyi respectively.Mwakio said his  team will now embark on the forthcoming Mombasa open Tong-IL Moo-Do International tournament that has attracted over 10 countries.

Kenya was the only African country in the  tournament that attracted Taiwan,South Korea,Japan,Thailand,Philipines,Brazil,Laos,USA,Nepal , and Cambodia.Mwakio  pleaded for financial  assistance to make the Mombasa global event  a great success.

"Our opponents were impressed with our performance and even indicated they will show up for the forthcoming Mombasa event." He said.

The Government  representative(Stephen Karinga) lauded the team for their sterling performance adding that Kenya has great talent in other areas apart  from Athletics. He averred that the Government had confidence with the team following their previous performance .The Government sponsored the team to the  tune of Kshs. 3.5 million that included purchasing of Air tickets,Insurance  cover and Visa travelling requirements. He confirmed that the Government shall award the medalists as per the payment scheme for their exemplary performance.
