Updated on 23/09/13  |    By AMOS ABUGA

For the first time Kenya will be hosting the Roll Ball World cup that will be held at the Moi International Sports center Kasarani gymnasium from the 3rd to 6th of October.

Head coach Jared Tobias said the players are intensifying their training ahead of the world cup that will be for both men and women. Kenya took part in her first ever world cup in 2010 in Indian where they finished 14 out of the 16 teams that took part.

He however called on well wishers to join their efforts in supporting the team prepare well for the coming world event,

“We call upon the corporate bodies to come on board and help the team which lacks quite a number of things. The skating we use to begin with are not the standard ones, we need funds to be able to train well with proper equipment ahead of staging such as big event.”Said the team coach who is sharpening the layers at the University of Nairobi grounds.

“The government had promised to book us at Kasarani after the conclusion of the women volleyball championships and the rugby tournament. But then again we need all the help we can get.” said the coach

Foreign based players in Dennis Njoroge, Richard Bett and Dan Imbaya have been training well with the team. Chrispine Obuong, Albert Oduor, Dennis Omutu and Frank Njoroge were the players dropped early this month.

Others in the squad include Captain Allan Amuma and his deputy Musa Geoffrey as well as Yvan Christian who rated among the best at the Africa Roll Ball championships back in February.

The Kenyan team is expected to train regularly with only two weeks left before the tournament that has attracted over 25 teams including defending champions Denmark, India, UAE, Netherlands, Tanzania and Uganda.

The Kenyan men’s team has been training for the past three months and has played two friendly matches away in Rwanda, beating the hosts 4-1 and playing to a nine all draw against African champions Uganda. The ladies team will be named later this month.
