Ivory Coast recovered from losing their opening two spot kicks to beat Ghana 9-8 in dramatic post-match penalties during the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Equatorial Guinea. The two teams played to a barren draw after 120 minutes.

This is the second African glory for the Ivory Coast side that last won the title in 1992 after defeating Ghana in the finals.

Goalkeeper Boubacar Barry was the hero for the Elephants as he saved the last penalty and stepped up to score the final spot kick that earned his team the coveted trophy.

Head coach Herve Renard, a French man, dedicated the win to Didier Drogba who he says worked very hard in the past to ensure his team achieved their ultimate dream.

“I am a lucky coach and I want to appreciate the efforts of every player including Didier Drogba who worked hard for this team in the past.”
