South Africa’s Bafana Bafana started their 2015 Africa Cup of Nations Campaign on a losing foot when they fell to best placed African nation Algeria at the Estadio de Mongomo in Equatorial Guinea on Monday night.

 Despite taking the  lead through Thuso Phala, South Africa failed to hold on to their one goal advantage  conceding through an own goal as Algeria piled pressure to draw parity .

 Bafana Bafana had an opportunity to pull away two minutes after the first goal in the 53rd minute but Tokelo Rantie blasted on the crossbar from the spot.

Algeria draw level in the 67th minute when Thulani Hlatshwayo scored past his own goalkeeper.

Faouzi Ghoulam and Islam Slimani scored the second and third goals for the Algerians to put matters beyond South Africa’s reach as they secured maximum points on their opening group match.
